Lions, Tigers and Roosters, Oh My!!

The Scrambled Brain book is done  and now it's time to step back into the studio !! Before the accident, I was mostly focused on creating realism style of watercolor painting, some imagined and some from real life or with photo references.  After the accident, when I tried to paint in the same way, I became confused - couldn't remember how to mix colors, how to for see composition and proportion, how to establish the best water to pigment ratio for painting. I lost my skills and got intense long lasting headaches when ever I tried to paint. Ugh!! it was frustrating and exhausting. Even before I could have even dreamt, post accident, to do such complex skills, the scrambled brain (process art) was spilling out of me, being my voice when words were hard to find. I used watercolor crayons, which made it much easier for me to put color down. Using a much more primitive approach and much different style. I continue to challenge myself, to re learn basic brain organi...
Welcome to Art by Kym! Since childhood, I loved using drawing to express my wonder and curiosity about the natural world. Though I have always considered myself an artist, creativity has been re emerging into my life more so in the past 10 years. I began stepping back in with watercolors to best express myself and curious to experience what the next image would bring. Very exciting! Following a traumatic brain injury in December, 2014, I have been claiming back many aspects of my life. Trough this experience my creativity has been my voice. Art as process, has helped me to explore concepts of my identity, acceptance and reemergence of my self. My art moves me to a place of spiritual connection and receptivity.  Here I am able to open to a deep inner wisdom and symbolic worlds that inspire healing and transformation in my life and hopefully in the lives of others. My intention is to share insight and images here that will open to self reflection and greater understanding.....

What a Turn Out!!

What an amazing turnout for the Opening Reception of the 2016 Mason Dixon Fall Art Show!! I am grateful for those who were able to come to the event and look forward to those of you who will be stopping by the exhibit this month.  It was my first show in 3 years and quite an accomplishment being shy of 2 years post accident.  I forgot how much preparation and energy goes into pulling it all together.  Especially when my brain feels like thick mud moving through cement! Lol!! It was a pleasure exhibiting with Barbara Bishop and John de Beaumont.   The Art Director, Polly Elliott, did an exceptional job organizing and hanging the exhibit.  The Mason Dixon Public Library and supporters out did themselves with a lovely display of delicious food and drink.  It is a beautiful venue!  If you have not yet had the opportunity to experience the exhibit, please take the opportunity to do so, it will run thru December 9th. The library hours are: Monday...
