Evolution

Life is a process. Art is a process.

Since the accident resulting in nervous system trauma and brain injury, in December 2014, a lot has changed in my life.  As a reflection of my life, my art has changed.  I am down more to painting acrylic on large canvases, being freer and loser with my style. I still like to return to watercolor at times. Has it evolved? In my once knowing philosophy, evolution is a constant process when one is planted in a strong grounding, centering and consciousness. I still feel very wonky in that department (and is very uncomfortable for me).  However, I'm trusting that this path is an evolutionary one and I will have more clarity on this process and experience in the future.

Here is an array of my creative images that have come forth up to this point in time.
I'm sharing here as documentation and will field any questions on my images or my process.  Some pieces are unfinished and are beckoning me to re-ingage.
My art process and creativity has been my most reliable therapy, as well as, Eurthmy therapy, vision therapy and consistent caring friends and family support.

As for any survivor, I can imagine that consistency, assurance and familiarity is paramount.
My art has given this preciuos gift to me.

Lions, Tigers and Roosters, Oh My!!

The Scrambled Brain book is done  and now it's time to step back into the studio !! Before the accident, I was mostly focused on creating realism style of watercolor painting, some imagined and some from real life or with photo references.  After the accident, when I tried to paint in the same way, I became confused - couldn't remember how to mix colors, how to for see composition and proportion, how to establish the best water to pigment ratio for painting. I lost my skills and got intense long lasting headaches when ever I tried to paint. Ugh!! it was frustrating and exhausting. Even before I could have even dreamt, post accident, to do such complex skills, the scrambled brain (process art) was spilling out of me, being my voice when words were hard to find. I used watercolor crayons, which made it much easier for me to put color down. Using a much more primitive approach and much different style. I continue to challenge myself, to re learn basic brain organi...
Welcome to Art by Kym! Since childhood, I loved using drawing to express my wonder and curiosity about the natural world. Though I have always considered myself an artist, creativity has been re emerging into my life more so in the past 10 years. I began stepping back in with watercolors to best express myself and curious to experience what the next image would bring. Very exciting! Following a traumatic brain injury in December, 2014, I have been claiming back many aspects of my life. Trough this experience my creativity has been my voice. Art as process, has helped me to explore concepts of my identity, acceptance and reemergence of my self. My art moves me to a place of spiritual connection and receptivity.  Here I am able to open to a deep inner wisdom and symbolic worlds that inspire healing and transformation in my life and hopefully in the lives of others. My intention is to share insight and images here that will open to self reflection and greater understanding.....

What a Turn Out!!

What an amazing turnout for the Opening Reception of the 2016 Mason Dixon Fall Art Show!! I am grateful for those who were able to come to the event and look forward to those of you who will be stopping by the exhibit this month.  It was my first show in 3 years and quite an accomplishment being shy of 2 years post accident.  I forgot how much preparation and energy goes into pulling it all together.  Especially when my brain feels like thick mud moving through cement! Lol!! It was a pleasure exhibiting with Barbara Bishop and John de Beaumont.   The Art Director, Polly Elliott, did an exceptional job organizing and hanging the exhibit.  The Mason Dixon Public Library and supporters out did themselves with a lovely display of delicious food and drink.  It is a beautiful venue!  If you have not yet had the opportunity to experience the exhibit, please take the opportunity to do so, it will run thru December 9th. The library hours are: Monday...
